I've created this blog in an attempt to enter the 21st century, and eek out from behind the technological curve. For nearly 20 years I've been traveling around the world, keeping diaries, writing thousands of postcards, and sending e-mails of my experiences from near and far. People have been telling me "Start a BLOG!" for forever, so here it goes...

About THIS trip...
As you may, or may not, know, I work for the NGO representing the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in the United States. WFP is the UN's agency which focuses on alleviating global hunger.
On October 30, I will be leading a delegation of WFP Committee leaders to Kenya, for a week-long trip to observe WFP programs in the field, through Nairobi, Mombasa, and the villages along the Indian Ocean coast, north of Mombasa.
Kenya is experiencing a devastating drought right now, destabalizing many areas of the country, creating real humanitarian and security concerns.
After Kenya, I will travel solo to Tanzania for a week. I have no plan, and no idea what I'll do.

What does "Successful Improv" mean?
The title of this blog refers to my tendency to just wing it, and plan absolutely nothing when I travel. My life is so organized and scheduled on a daily basis, and my travel time is intentionally not. Nothing thrills me more than getting off a plane in a new country, and thinking to myself "Okay. So what do I do now?" This has created a long string of successful improvs over the years...

very cool dear! u should be a writer...ummm u already r, that's 4 sure! It sounds fascinating and it just reminds me of how wonderful it is to travel around the world. I am wondering what I am doing now when I am moving back to Sweden after spending 9 years abroad...
don't forget that we are seeing eachother the night u come back to Dee Cee. U will be zonked....enjoy ur travels and thanks for the kind words in ur first posting. this is awesome- the first time in my life that I am posting something on a blogg!! I know, I know.... I feel like I usually live in the century of C. Columbus....
